Behind the Scenes: New Custom Home with River Views in Sequim

May 9, 2018

When Sandy came to us last year she didn’t need any convincing about how amazing the lifestyle in Western Washington is… she already lived here. She already lived on a piece of land in Sequim with tranquil river and mountain views. But there was just one problem. Sandy was ready to upgrade from the current manufactured home she was living in to a beautiful, custom home on the same property. After asking around about local builders, Sandy chose Estes Builders based on positive word of mouth. Because Sandy already lived on the land, she had a clear vision for the type of home she wanted to build. To start, she wanted an open concept kitchen, living, and dining area so she could take advantage of 180 degree views. Next, she wanted a wrap around porch to create a natural transition between indoor and outdoor living ( and to further enjoy the views and the sound of the rushing river). Like many of our customers, Sandy wanted a spa-style master bath for herself but she also wanted a bath area for her dog. One of Sandy’s most important priorities, however, was to build a house that fit the unique lay of the land. Sandy worked with our in-house architect Tim Lin to rework her original blueprint to create a spacious, open 1,400 square foot 2 bedroom, 2 bath home. The collaboration was an important part of the process for Sandy. “I don’t want someone else spearheading design and construction of my house. I want to be involved in it, and then have them do all that hard work…. It was a success.” Throughout the process of designing and building her new home (which included the removal of her existing manufactured home), Sandy appreciated the team approach of working with our professional in-house team. “They really listen to you,” she said. The finished home checked every item on Sandy’s list, but for her it was about more than bedrooms, bathrooms and features. She wanted a home that was the right fit for her stage of life as a retiree. “When you’re in balance with your home and your surroundings, you’re in balance and centered. And at this point in my life that’s what I want. I want to be centered. And this house is a nice focus for me.” Ready to learn more about designing and building your home with Estes Builders?
