Quality home construction is no accident

Quality IllistrationWhat does the word “quality” mean in relation to new home construction? The question may seem simple, but you’ll often get a different answer depending on who you ask. Most people — and even many home builders — will tell you that quality has to do with the type of materials you use to build a home. The more expensive the material, the more quality you’re adding to your home. While material selection is an important component of quality, it’s not everything. Any builder can install expensive materials, but expensive materials alone will not result in a quality home. So what does quality mean?

Quality is a process.

To us, quality refers more to a process than just to material selection, although material selection does play an important role in the overall process. Building a quality home requires a series of tangible methods that are integrated into the design, material selection, and construction of the home. These methods, when followed diligently and with great care, will help to ensure your custom home is built to look great and to last. When you’re interviewing custom home builders, be sure to ask them what their quality process is. If they don’t have an answer, there’s a good chance their work is pretty hit and miss, which is not something you want to spend your hard-earned money on.

So what’s our quality process?

Our quality process begins with the design of your new custom home. The design team works alongside our construction personnel, so we can be sure the design and specifications will enhance the durability and performance of the home before construction begins. Once we have a solid design to work with, the process of material selection begins. Selecting the right materials for the right applications is a key component to overall quality. Design and material selection is followed by construction, which is also handled with great care and attention to detail. To ensure consistent quality, we assign each member of our personnel a specific task during construction. That way nobody is being pulled in several directions at once during a build and can focus on the quality of the work he or she is performing. What’s more, during every major step in construction, we require written quality checks. These not only enhance the quality of the final product but also reduce the need for re-work and return visits by trade workers, which, in turn, reduces waste and costs. We have devoted a significant amount of time to developing and perfecting our quality process, which is one of the big reasons why we received the Gold Level – National Housing Quality Award for our work. Of course, this is only a brief overview of our quality process. If you would like to learn more, let’s talk soon.
