Small-House Cool
One of the challenges with the Port Townsend home was staying within a budget and price point suitable for the neighborhood. Estes Builders’ design team helped the couple find balance and reduced square footage to accommodate several high-end finishes including Wolf appliances, a Caribou butcher block countertop, a bidet, a rainshower and built-in shower bench, teak vanities, custom lighting, a European fireplace, a custom entry door with a larger top lite, and metal awnings. Cedar siding and board-and-batten warm up the modern lines and the quaint courtyard where the concrete walls double as a planters. Large double-entry doors connect the courtyard to the master suite and living room. Vaulted ceilings and clerestory windows give the main living a larger feel and flood the interior with light.
Maximizing the efficiency of the layout allowed for all of the couple’s required lifestyle amenities—a pet room and dog run, an expansive wall space for art, a separate art studio/ADU, and a shop off the garage. The balance of size and space, budget and luxury attests to Estes Builders’ ability to interpret the unique needs of each customer and tailoring their home to achieve that vision within the confines of land, law, and budget.
