Unique Touches Lend a Personal Vibe
The new homeowners, who were relocating from Colorado, have backgrounds in construction and design, which helped further smooth Estes’ already easy design process. They had a clear idea of their aesthetic and spoke the same language, while understanding how to blend materials and finishes.
The homeowners’ design savvy and their collaboration with Estes led to a few unique touches, such as in the powder room, which features a floating granite countertop with apron front, beautiful copper vessel sink, and two oversized pendants; the effect of the floating countertop and large lighting in the small room is intimate yet spacious. In the great room, the fireplace features a porcelain tile surround, a raised hearth, and an asymmetrical sapele slab mantel for a different look that extends the volume without feeling overpowering. The darker colors of the fireplace add a pop against the white walls while the mantel brings a rich warmth.
In the kitchen, rose gold hardware lends additional warmth without feeling too feminine, especially in contrast with the fireplace nearby. A matte finish on the fire clay sink delivers a handmade feel.
The couple wasn’t afraid to mix materials and finishes, leveraging neutral colors to ensure elements are complementary, including two different-yet-coordinated countertops in the kitchen.
Similarly, the exterior blends horizontal and vertical fiber cement siding in greige and light stone accents with a dark garage door and black window frames. A warm cedar accent wall balances the two color schemes while drawing visitors to the entry.
In the end, the homeowners enjoyed the process as much as the Estes Builders team. “From day one until delivery, the Estes team was engaging, communicative, informative and frankly extremely pleasant to deal with,” they said. “No controversial matters, just constructive resolution of various design and construction matters. The Estes team is remarkably professional and likely to be the best builder on the Olympic Peninsula.”
