More About Us

The Perfect Escape

Driving onto Marrowstone Island is an experience unlike few others, instantly transporting you to an idyllic locale where farms meet the waters of Puget Sound. It was here that the Georgia homeowners made their new life in the Northwest, finding jobs in nearby towns but returning each day to a cozy home nestled in the woods. A large covered deck of wood, stone, and cable rail overlooks the forested property and the water beyond, with a path through large cedar trees leading to the beach.

A Home for Now and Later

Knowing that this was their forever home, the couple wanted to include space for a future caregiver. Constraints on the lot size and shape—including a 112-foot shoreline setback—prevented an ADU, so Estes Builders designed a highly functional layout with two wings. One side holds the primary suite, while the other has all the amenities of an independent living space, including two bedrooms, a den, laundry, a bathroom, a private deck, and a separate entrance. In the meantime, the design provides an ideal place for guests to stay when they visit—perfect for a couple that loves to entertain.

Other must-have details include a large pantry and ample laundry room, a combination shop-garage, and hot- and cold-water bibs for bathing their dog. On the side of the house that faces a nearby property, Estes designed higher windows with obscured glass to ensure privacy.

The homeowners were happy to let the stunning property and surroundings shine for their home, selecting clean lines and simple touches for a rustic-modern look that blends perfectly with the fog-laden trees.

Thanks to a collaborative design process and a thoughtful layout, the homeowners have a custom home that meets their dreams today and well into the future.
