Having researched other contractors in the area, this couple found Estes Builders to be the clear choice for their custom home project on the Olympic Peninsula.
Before building a custom home on their property in Sequim, Steve and Maria worked with a one-man, local contractor to build a detached garage on their lot.
The couple was still living in California at the time, so Steve asked his friend, Marvin, an engineer living in Port Townsend, to draw up the design and oversee the construction.
The problem
It was a good thing Marvin was there to supervise. Steve and Maria didn’t find out until later that the builder was only contracting on the side, and that his dedication to completing the project was not as strong as his urge to visit his significant other who lived in another city.
The contractor’s lack of commitment to the project resulted in a construction that never stayed on schedule.
Thanks to Marvin’s supervision, the couple was able to keep the project
within budget, and they were happy with the finished product. But the journey to get there was not one they wanted to take again. Steve was sure that the quality of work had a lot to do with his friend’s supervision of the project.
Steve and Maria were originally considering working with the contractor to build a home on the property after the garage was completed. But the experience changed their minds completely. Instead, they decided to research other contractors in the area.
That’s when Steve found Estes Builders.
The solution
Steve asked his friend, Marvin, to meet with Estes Builders to
discuss the design of the new home and to get a sense for their process. Marvin, who has 40 years experience working with contractors, was impressed. “He had never worked with a contractor that was so thorough,” Steve says.
Marvin’s impression of Estes Builders and the resulting conversations about the design of the home assured Steve and Maria that Estes was the builder for them — the choice was clear.
While the contractor who worked on the garage needed Marvin’s constant supervision, Estes Builders needed none whatsoever. Mike, the supervisor, showed up every morning of construction to make sure the subcontractors were doing their job right, and they always were.
Every subcontractor that works with Estes knows they have high expectations and will make them do their work over if it’s not done right the first time.
Steve remembers giving the finishers salmon as an extra “thank you” for doing such great work. The finishers thanked him for the salmon, but made a point of saying that Estes Builders requires them to do great work or else they would have to do it over. They have no other option but to do
quality work every time.
The result
Steve and Maria could not be happier with their choice to work with Estes Builders to build their custom home. Estes finished the project on budget and a couple of weeks earlier than predicted, a welcome change from their last experience working with a contractor. They have even received several followup phone calls from Estes to make sure everything is up to their standards.
They now have the home of their dreams on the Olympic Peninsula, and Steve gladly recommends Estes Builders to anyone who asks — “Three people have talked to me about Estes, and I have recommended them highly every time.”
When asked how he would rate his overall experience working with Estes Builders, Steve said: “On a scale of one to 10, Estes Builders is a 10… Estes does something I’ve never seen before.”
